About Us

Hello!

I'm Sharon Oldfield, the owner and creator of Cotton Pod, an online yarn store specialising in cotton yarns, crochet patterns & crochet kits.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, as a Secondary School teacher & subject leader, then crochet tutor, my crochet patterns, kits and workshops are designed to be easy to follow to make your crafting time enjoyable, mindful and relaxing.

I began tutoring crochet workshops in 2015, at Stitch Studio in Ramsbottom, where I would design my own teaching materials and patterns to use in my classes.

A year later, in March 2016 I launched the Cotton Pod website as a home for my patterns and a base to sell the resources needed for my patterns. 

Cotton Pod Crochet Patterns

Coming from a teaching background, I recognise that we all have different learning styles, ways of accessing information and approaches to following instructions.

As a result I aim to create patterns that are easy to read and follow, so that the user feels confident that they are following the instructions correctly.

You'll find less abbreviations in my patterns than usual and the text is larger than you'd find in a magazine. The layout makes scanning and following the pattern easier.

I also use diagrams and pictures to help illustrate and explain stages within a pattern and in some patterns you can find links to demonstrations on my You Tube Channel.

 

 

Cotton Pod Crochet Kits

I aim to curate the best quality yarns and haberdashery for my kits so that you can achieve an excellent finish in your projects.

I try to keep packaging to a minimum and I chose not to have expensive boxes designed and manufactured for my kits, as I like to base the price of my kits on the cost of the materials you are going to use and on the sharing of my expertise via the pattern booklets. Glossy printed boxes are very pretty but expensive to the pocket and the planet.

Cotton Pod Online Shop

In the Cotton Pod shop you will find a carefully curated collection of cotton based yarns that I love to use in my own projects. Selected for their soft to the touch feel and gorgeous colour ranges.

There's also crochet hooks, knitting needles and all the usual notions for needlecraft. Look out for beautiful ribbons and buttons too and the section Gifts for Crafters, where you'll find lovely items to buy your crafty friends and family.

Wool & Yarn Shows

Throughout the year I take Cotton Pod to wool and yarn shows. For example; Yarndale & Spring into Wool. Please visit their websites to see when the next show will take place. I hope to see you at one of these shows in the future!
