DROPS Paris Easter Crochet Colour Palette at Cotton Pod

My crochet basket is currently brimming with these stunning Spring inspired colours right now. The colour palette has been inspired by these two lovely Easter treasures that have been gifted to my children in past years.

Easter Crochet workshop Cotton Pod at Stitch Studio

This week I have been making lots of Daffodils, both at home and during the Easter Crochet workshop at the Studio. We all had great fun seeing all the Daffodils appear on the table in all shades of sunny yellow.

I love Daffs, in fact they are possibly my number one favourite flower (although ask me again in May when the Hawthorn blossoms and again in the summer when the ox-eye daisy takes over the hedgerows and roadsides!). Soon I will be greeted by my excited children clutching a bunch each on Mother’s Day. How do I know this already? Well, it’s the same every year and I cannot wait to see how pleased they will be to see me so happy with my Daffs! A simple bunch of sunny love and joy, they symbolize Motherhood perfectly.

So, with Mother’s Day just about to arrive and my Godmother’s birthday just before that, I decided to make them each a Daffodil brooch with a twist.  When not being worn the Daffodil brooch can be pinned onto the embroidery hoop and hung on the wall as a picture!

So here’s how I made it, in three easy steps:
1. I used DROPS Paris cotton for the Daffodil, colours 35 vanilla and 14 strong yellow (pattern by Cotton Pod). I used a 4mm hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the Daffodil being too floppy.

2. I stitched a brooch fastening to the back, above the centre line so the Daffodil sits nicely when pinned on to clothing or the hoop.

3. I chose some lovely fabrics from my stash, the yellow one is a Liberty print called Kyoko. I trapped the fabric tightly inside a small embroidery hoop.  Then trimmed the edges as close to the embroidery hoop as I could get with sharp embroidery scissors. Then simply pinned the brooch to the hoop.

There you have it, wearable art!

Happy crafting!

There are lots of lovely Daffodil patterns on the web, but if you would like to use my pattern it is available in my Cotton Pod webstore.
