A Sockalicious Adventure - Day 1
Posted by Sharon Oldfield on
This Easter break I have set myself the challenge of making a pair of crochet socks. Do you fancy coming on a sockalicious adventure and making them too?
Project information:
Free Pattern - Summer Sorbet Socks by DROPS Design
Yarn - DROPS Fabel in colours 100 Off White (100g) and 310 Sunset
Hook - 2mm
Choosing the pattern has been quite straight forward as I know I want to make striped socks. Each stripe will provide me with a mini goal post, to keep up my interest and keep me motivated.
The pattern shown above uses DROPS Alpaca in shades 0100 off white, 2915 orange, 2922 deep pink and 3140 light pink. However, I really wanted to try out DROPS Fabel in colours 100 off white and 310 sunset because I am really interested to see how a self striping yarn would work within this pattern.
I think the Sunset shades will really pop against the off white. This means I will have to adapt the pattern and instead of working through the four colours as suggested I will alternate between the off white and sunset instead.
In the past, when making hand warmers, for example, I have been known to make one then be too eager to try something else before making the second. So with this project I am going to be really disciplined and make both socks at the same time. This is a technique I picked up from looking at other sock makers' project stories on the internet. In preparation I have used my yarn winder to split each ball of yarn into two mini balls. I used my scales during the winding process to get the balls roughly the same size.
So pattern chosen, yarn selected and prepared, here's today's Sockalicious progress...
Ok, it's not a lot of sock, yet, but I am really proud! After all, that is a 2mm hook!
If you haven't already made socks yet I hope I have inspired you to try it out! I'll be back tomorrow with 'A Sockalicious Adventure - Day 2' post.
Happy Hooking!
(DROPS Fabel is currently 25% off, until the end of March, another great reason to try out sock making!)
